CHINATOWN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building and preserving affordable housing while strengthening the communities it serves. Founded in response to housing displacement in San Francisco’s Chinatown, CCDC has grown into a leading community development organization focused on equity, stability, and long-term neighborhood preservation.

HISTORY
Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) was founded in 1977 to address the growing need for affordable housing, community services, and neighborhood advocacy within San Francisco’s Chinatown community. The organization was established during a period of rapid displacement and urban change, with a mission to protect and support low-income immigrant and working-class residents. Over time, CCDC expanded its impact beyond Chinatown and became one of the leading nonprofit affordable housing developers and community organizations in the Bay Area.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the Chinatown Community Development Center is to build community and enhance the quality of life for San Francisco residents. We are a place-based community development organization serving primarily the Chinatown neighborhood, and also serve other areas including North Beach and the Tenderloin. We are a community development organization with many roles - as neighborhood advocates, organizers and planners, and as developers and managers of affordable housing.
We believe in a comprehensive vision of community, a quality environment, a healthy neighborhood economy, and active voluntary associations. We are committed to the empowerment of low-income residents, diversity and coalition building, and social and economic justice.
TYPE OF PROJECTS
CCDC’s portfolio include new affordable housing developments and site preservation through rehabs providing site management, community planning, resident services, and neighborhood advocacy. The organization developed and managed family housing, senior housing, and supportive housing communities throughout San Francisco and the Bay Area.
In addition to housing development, CCDC provides services such as youth and senior programs, financial education, community organizing, and tenant engagement initiatives that strengthened resident well-being and community connection.

IMPACT
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and shelter-in-place order in March 2020, CCDC shifted to prioritize reducing disease transmission in Chinatown’s Single Room Occupancy (SRO) buildings and public housing. Chinatown CDC quickly responded with other nonprofits to deliver meals to mainly low-income, limited English-proficient immigrants to minimize contact in shared kitchens and bathrooms. (source)
